Why you should join us

The Spring Alliance is a broad-based participatory campaign that spans all sectors of civil society that are concerned with making a social and sustainable EU agenda a reality.

Although the project management of the campaign is handled by its founding partners: EEB, ETUC and Social Platform and Concord (= steering committee), its success depends on the active involvement of a broad representation from civil society organisations, businesses or academic institutions.

What do Spring Alliance members do?

In the first phase of the campaign many Spring Alliance supporters actively contributed to the drafting process of the Manifesto. Between February and June several thematic working groups were organized to elaborate the Manifesto text. Their input has been collected and reviewed by an editorial committee, consisting of representatives from the steering committee, that was in charge of  preparing the final text for the manifesto.

On 17 June 2009 a 'Spring Alliance Conference' was organized to discuss and finalize the Spring Alliance Manifesto text with all stakeholders involved. After this final stakeholder consultation, the Manifesto was offcially adopted by the steering committee on 9 July, who presented the Manifesto to the President of the European Commission on 22 July.

To kick off the second phase of the campaign a Spring Alliance high level conference  "Putting People and Planet first: EU leadership for a social and green strategy post 2010" will be organized on 28 September 2009. The main aim of this conference is to present the Manifesto to representatives of the relevant European Institutions and to open up the dialogue between EU decision makers and civil society.

Further promotional activities will be undertaken, e.g. liaising with future EU presidencies and seeking debate with the European Commission and the newly- elected European Parliament as well as collecting support for the Manifesto at Member State level.
